Online Dating Advice from a Professional Online Dating Coach
by Jay Reiss

Get online dating advice from Jay Reiss - The Online Dating CoachHere's some online dating advice to help you succeed on the dating sites. This online dating advice can be used on match.com, eHarmony, or any other dating site. My online dating advice is based on 25 years of experience with online dating and my working with more than two thousand clients worldwide!  Please feel free to call or write for personal assistance.  1. Put your heart and soul into your online dating profile. Many people search for partners on dating sites like shopping for clothing in a mail order catalog. Love doesn't work that way! You can't order up someone like you do in a restaurant ("I'll have a slim brunette with long legs and full breasts to go...").

2. Some online dating advice to live by: The more you tell, the more you sell. In a dating profile, longer is generally better. Brevity will serve you in many circumstances, but promoting yourself on a dating site isn't one of them. Provide the reader with as much detail as you can. Talk about your interests, favorite pastimes and hobbies, and who you are as a person. Ask yourself, "What would I like to know about someone before getting involved in a new relationship?" And then answer that question about yourself and include the details. Talk about your personality, your dreams for the future, and most importantly, your inner world too. Guys: women want to know about you as a person - not about your toys and your material success (well, okay, some women do, but do you really want such a woman in your life?). Women: guys want to know that you'll be fun to spend time with, not how "high maintenance" you are! Some key online dating advice: provide examples to illustrate your personality and life preferences, rather than simply listing them in your dating profile. In other words, talking about a childhood event and how that shaped your thinking is far more interesting than simply listing the things you enjoy.

3. Having said all of this, some online dating advice that you'll want to take to heart is to avoid the "too much information" syndrome (or "TMI" for short). Keep some of the more private stuff about yourself for sharing later. One example of this is why you divorced your ex. Your dating profile isn't the place to be sharing this - and the night of your first date might not be the place either!

4. Some online dating advice to take seriously is to avoid a long "laundry list" of requirements in your online dating profile. For one thing, it makes you seem really picky. For another, it often comes across in a bitter, even angry way. If your list of requirements is really long, you might want to think about why you've been single so long and rethink your list. Try to boil your list down to your top three requirements and keep an open mind about the rest. Although I've heard it said that creating a long list can help you visualize the person you would like to meet, I have to disagree with this myself. The longer your list, the more difficult it will be to satisfy it. My online dating advice to you is to shred your list, and go back to the drawing board. What are your three most important non-negotiable qualities in a partner or in a relationship? It is really counterproductive to use a long list. No one will satisfy it for one thing, and it's a real turn-off to the reader too, which defeats the purpose of creating your list in the first place!

Most of the clients who come to me for online dating advice have one thing in common. When it comes to marketing themselves on dating sites, they feel completely unprepared to do it themselves. (Of course, that's where I come in!). Take this online dating advice seriously: If you're not an especially talented writer and marketer, find someone else who is and ask for their help. Most of the online dating profiles I see on match.com, eHarmony, and elsewhere are written terribly and need a lot of rewriting and editing. Your happiness is on the line when you join a dating site - and this is not the place to cut corners or "do it yourself." My bottom line online dating advice to you is to hire a professional and get the help you deserve in designing your dating profile - your future happiness depends on it!
